WALK: Historic Nightcap Track 18km Grade 4

Click here for the meeting place at The Channon Pub. From here we will divide into two groups, and 2 cars will drive to Mt Nardi and another 2 cars to Rummery Park (both approx a 30-min drive). Please ensure you bring change to chip in for fuel for the driver, 1.5 times the cost/number of people in the car. I estimate this to be $12-$16 per car.

The walk goes via Peates Mountain and Mt Matheson. Both parties will lunch together at the scenic lookout at Nightcap Bluff with great views of the Tweed Valley where car keys will be swapped. Bob Brockhill will be the main organiser and his group will walk from Rummery Park (a bit harder than from Mt Nardi). Heron Lee will lead the group from Mt Nardi.

The walk takes you through the World Heritage rainforest of Nightcap National Park. It is popular amongst experienced hikers looking for a remote bushwalking experience. Some parts were used during the 1800s and 1900s by travellers and postal workers who were making their way between Lismore and Murwillumbah. Hence, the alternative name used for this walk is "The Postman's Track". Keep a look-out for the long-nosed potoroo and Albert’s lyrebird.

After the walk, there is the option to stay at The Channon Pub for food and/or a drink before heading home.
