KAYAK: Ballina to Skennars Head Grade Easy/Medium

Here’s a very simple paddle to get the new year underway. The grade is closer to easy than medium.

This is now a morning paddle (due to wind direction), not an afternoon one. We are doing it in reverse, so meeting at the Sailing Club in Ballina, not up the river at North Creek.

We’ll shuffle our cars to the end point at North Creek and return to the start, paddling by about 10.00am. Our route will take us upstream on the rising tide on the Richmond River, up the North Creek Canal and into the North Creek estuary.

The distance is only 10klms or so.

Please bring your morning tea, and we will probably pull into the quiet little bay near the racecourse to enjoy it.

After the paddle, some of you may be interested in joining us for an early lunch at Gawandii Beach, which is the river beach in front of the Brighton Street Cafe, Shaws Bay.
