South Brisbane - Moreton Bay Cycle Itinerary
Are you ready for an adventure? I hope you're all excited and ready for an amazing series of cycle rides south of Brisbane along Moreton Bay. Here's the provisional itinerary for our rides from Tuesday, 29th July to Friday, 1st August. Please note that details might change slightly, and I'll keep you updated as we go along.
With respect to accommodation...in the past, most people chose to stay in the Manly area, and I would recommend it as the best spot. There are Airbnb's, motels, and caravan parks aplenty!
Tuesday: Arrival day Bulimba Creek Cycleway 32km
Click here to see the meeting place for the start of the ride at Murarrie Recreation Reserve at 10:00am for a 10:30am departure. A new raceway and facilities have now been completed. Park on the south-eastern side of the reserve.
We'll embark on a fantastic ride along the picturesque Bulimba Creek Cycleway. Please ensure you've had your morning coffee before we meet, as there won't be any coffee stops along the route. Don't forget to bring a packed lunch! We'll enjoy it in the park at the turn point. We should arrive back to our cars at about 2:30pm and you can head off to your accommodation.
Wednesday am: Moreton Bay Cycleway - Wynnum to Wellington Point and return 55km
Click here for the meeting place at Wynnum North Conservation Park carpark at 9:00am
We'll do a short 1km walk around the boardwalk on the wetlands before heading off on the scenic Moreton Bay Cycleway, riding along the water south to Manly for a coffee and croissant break at the gorgeous Manly Boathouse Restaurant out on the breakwater. Then we will continue to Wellington Point for a delightful picnic. There is a café with sandwiches, drinks etc at Wellington Point if you prefer. Depending on the tide, we may have the opportunity to take a 1km walk on a sandbar off the Point, leading to the King Island Conservation Park. We will then cycle back through Manly to the carpark. If you are staying in Manly, consider riding up the Cycleway to the start point, then you can go straight back home when you get back to Manly.
Wednesday pm: Brisbane City Lights 20km
Click here for the meeting place at New Farm Park at 5:30pm.
As the sun sets, we have a thrilling night cycle planned! We'll start at New Farm Park and cycle along the Brisbane River past the nightlife of Felons Brewery to the Story Bridge. A short climb uphill or take the lift, and we are over the bridge heading over to Kangaroo Point. We will cruise along the point along the southern side of the river past the cliffs and arrive at the Goodwill Bridge. We will cross the Goodwill Bridge and ride along the front of the city and through the new Star Casino and Hotel complex. Then we will cross the river at the William Jolly Bridge and cycle along South Bank. You will have a spectacular view of the city and the Star Hotel complex. At the end of South Bank, it's across the river again via the Goodwill Bridge to the Botanic Gardens. Around the gardens, we cross again at the brand-new Kangaroo Point Bridge and back up onto the Story Bridge to cross the river. We will stop at Felons Brewery for dinner of your choice, then return to our cars at New Farm Park. Cycle lights are essential for this ride!
Thursday: Wellington Point to Redlands Bay 59km
Click here for the meeting place at Wellington Point car park at 9:00am.
We'll cycle the Moreton Bay Cycleway to Redlands Bay via Cleveland, which will be our morning coffee stop, and then Victoria Point. It is all cycleway except for a short section on road cycle lanes. We'll enjoy a picnic lunch at Redlands Bay, then return to Victoria Point.
Friday am: Coochiemudlo Island Walk 5km (flat)
Click here for the meeting place at the Victoria Point Jetty at 9:30am.
After you have packed up, we will meet at the Victoria Point ferry, and catch the 9:30am ferry to Coochiemudlo Island. Firstly, we will enjoy a lovely morning coffee and pastry at the island café, then a leisurely walk around the island where we will catch the ferry back to Victoria Point. Jump in the car and head to The Elysium Restaurant for a wonderful departure lunch. After lunch, we say goodbye and depart for home.
Thank you all for joining us on the Brisbane adventure. Your participation makes these events special, and Carmel and I can't wait to see you all there! Looking forward to cycling with you!
