
WALK: Carnarvon Gorge/Girraween 8-day event Grades 3-4
Registration is limited to 15.
This is an opportunity for club members to return or visit for the first time the splendours of the Carnarvon Gorge National Park and Girraween National Park. Carnarvon Gorge is a spectacular destination filled with striking landscapes, towering sandstone cliffs, endless tablelands, an abundance of native wildlife and indigenous art sites that have been recognised as some of the finest rock imagery in Australia. Girraween is a park of massive granite outcrops and precariously placed boulders.
The itinerary is as follows:
Day 1 Saturday: Drive to Chinchilla , Meet up at Chinchilla Pub for dinner.
Day 2: Sunday Arrive at Breeze Holiday Park, Carnarvon Gorge – Sundowner drinks and dinner
Day 3 Monday: Big Bend, Cathedral Cave and Boowinda Gorge (22km return);
Day 4 Tuesday: Wards Canyon, Art Gallery & Amphitheatre (14km return);
Day 5 Wednesday: Boolimba Bluff for sunrise, Baloon Cave, Mickeys Ck, the Rockpool & the Nature Trail (10km all up).
Day 6 Thursday: Drive to Stanthorpe, Dinner at O’Maras Hotel.
Day 7 Friday: Girraween National Park, Day Walks Bald Creek, Castle Rock, overnight at Stanthorpe
Day 8 Saturday: return home
In Chinchilla you can choose your own accommodation. Last year several of us stayed at the Chinchilla Tourist Park. At Carnarvon Gorge we will stay at Big 4 Breeze Holiday Park (formerly known as the Takarakka Bush Resort).
